Julia Friedland

Julia holds a Master of Social Work degree from Columbia University, where she specialized in advanced clinical practice and gained practical experience in comprehensive Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) during her internship at Metro NY DBT Center in New York City. During her time there, she led skills group training and worked extensively with adolescents and adults, managing symptoms of depression, anxiety, ADHD, and trauma.

At GLTC, Julia is participating in our DBT Fellowship program, led by Linehan Board of Certfication, Certified Providers. She will be completing a year of intensive DBT Training.

 

Julia is currently under the supervision of Lauren Barris, LCSW, who is a DBT-Linehan Board of Certification Certified Clinician. Julia is drawn to DBT for its powerful emphasis on acceptance and understanding individuals within the context of their lives. She firmly believes in her clients' ability to improve their lives and navigate difficult moments with the support of DBT techniques.

In addition to her work in DBT, Julia completed an internship at a primary care facility in Washington Heights, NYC, where she provided behavioral health and social support services to adults from diverse backgrounds. Julia’s holistic and person-centered approach ensures that each individual's unique needs are met with warmth and understanding. Julia also has years of experience working within the disability community within the Chicagoland area and is particularly passionate about creating an inclusive and supportive environment for all her clients.

In her spare time, Julia enjoys listening to music and podcasts, playing with her dog, Henry, and spending time with her family and friends.
